Dear Mom & Dad, (revision 1)

As I have mentioned before, I am completely at peace with God. I know what I am doing is what I should and need be doing, not just for my temporal but also my eternal joy.

I know that I am doing my best. If I make a mistake, then I'll learn from that mistake and move on. However, dating [GMB] has been quite the opposite of a mistake. He is one of the best things to happen in my life. He inspires me to be the best person I can be. He fills my heart with gratitude and love for life. He is a comfort and peace to me. I have felt absolutely no guilt or shame but the exact opposite in my relationship with him. The fruits of our relationship have been nothing but good.

I really am just doing my best, and I wish you could honestly see that.

I love you, I want to please you, and it hurts deeply to know that my best is not good enough for you. It's a pain that I simply cannot continuously bear.

I hope you will, at the very least, watch this clip from a movie based on a true story and sincerely listen to the final monologue: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SHV9h7Lgvn8 .

... because such are the fruits of your words and actions; such is what your words are actions are doing to me.

Love,
Andrew Martin

  1. Nice.

You might consider stopping at "that my best is not good enough for you." This is a powerful message. Unless you're actually threatening to jump off a bridge, the comparison between Prayers for Bobby and your situation seems out of place, at least to me.

(I hope you'll listen to all the feedback but be confident in the end in sending whatever letter you think best fits the situation. You know your family better than I or any other commenter.)

  2. agree with moho in hawaii. there is no such drama required here. You have found someone to share your love... Sounds delightful to me. If your family wants to turn it into some arcane Mormon cultural ripcord that is their issue. You're not pulling it...also they are your family so you know what's up. I also hear you are a dancer?, and I was for many years as well. We tend toward the dramatic :)Don't you just want to have them come to a dark theater and watch an incredible contemporary solo which reveals all of your feelings through movement and brings them to tears...I would.

  3. I think it's good. I, too, think the Prayers for Bobby clip (while good) is unnecessary.

  4. Please, will you reconsider and let me take some pictures of you and GMB together? The love in your eyes and faces for each other would, or should, be MORE than enough to tell your family what you want to say.

Good luck with your letter writing.

Sending love and good energy your way. :)

    Happy night!
